proudly announces a new course:

On Groups, Dynamics and Facilitation

With Colin Lago

Course Background

  • Do we “lead “groups or do we merely “accompany“ them when we are speaking of group work facilitation?
  • Do we just ‘be present’ and ‘trust the process?’
  • What is the process?
  • What does the “Group Organism” (C.R.Rogers) need to develop its potential?
  • What does it really mean to be facilitative of a group process?
  • How do I want to be in this function?
  • What do I want to do and not want to do in my groupwork?

The above questions, and many more, may abound for those who have worked with groups, be they therapeutic, educational, goal oriented, etc. We, at Temenos, are aware that frequently, within the professional field, colleagues may make assumptions that having trained as a counsellor/ psychotherapist/ and maybe teacher, social worker or probation officer, then they are qualified by experience to run different group work initiatives.

Certainly, much can be achieved within groups that might not be achieved so easily working with individuals. This course offers an opportunity for participants to hone their knowledge and skills in relation to this specific application of professional work.

Course Description

This Certificate course will consist of 3 modules held within the same academic year. A Diploma in Group work may be attained by a further attendance at a subsequent ten day course on Group work.

The course is open to professional practitioners (counsellors/ psychotherapists/teachers/social workers/ etc) wishing to develop their knowledge, skills and awareness within this setting.

The course will be based on Carl Roger’s philosophy of ‘student centred’ learning and the curriculum and work engaged in will be determined by the needs of the ‘learning’ community of course participants. Amongst other options, it is hoped to be able to offer the opportunities for skills practice and feedback through televisual recording.

Structure and Dates

The course takes place in 3 modules:

5-9 March 2012

23-24 April 2012

18-20 June 2012

Each day runs from 9.30am-5.30pm.
